The Dice Throne universe is expanding in a major way with Dice Throne Nexus, and it’s already smashed its initial goal on Kickstarter. Dice Throne Nexus introduces four new heroes, a powerful villain, and a brand new cooperative experience. That’s plenty for any one campaign, but there are several more ways to enhance your Dice Throne Nexus experience, and we’re here to break down everything the new set is bringing to the table.

The biggest new additions are four new heroes: Hacker, Phantom Runner, Punch-A-Tron 3000, and Snyper, and each one has a completely distinct playstyle and complexity. Then, there’s Dice Throne Sagas: Crimson Code, a new co-op experience that retains the classic Dice Throne gameplay but weaves in new teamwork elements in a story-based adventure. That’s in addition to Promo Cards, Mythic Cards, Accessory Packs for each hero, playmats, and alternate-art Hero Boards for past characters.

‘Dice Throne Nexus’ Features New Heroes

Let’s jump into the new heroes, starting with the Hacker, who lives up to the title with an attack arsenal that dishes out damage but also greatly limits your opponent’s offensive capabilities. Hacker’s main ability is Virus, which allows you to place a Virus token on one of your opponent’s offensive abilities.

Even if the opponent manages to activate that ability, the attack does one less damage for each Virus Token that’s currently on the character. If you manage to get 5 Virus Tokens on your opponent, you can Hack them, costing them a Combat Point and possibly even more undefendable damage.

There’s also Malware, which can quickly ramp up the amount of Virus Tokens on your enemy or cause damage depending on the dice roll. Then there’s R.A.M., which is a buff for the Hacker that allows them to spend it and gain 1 additional Roll Attempt during the Roll Phase. There’s also versatility in the Hacker’s defense, which is titled Fire Wall. Depending on the roll, you can gain R.A.M., deal damage, or inflict Virus, and you might even get another chance to roll.

Next there’s the Phantom Runner, who brings a completely different approach to combat. It’s all based around the Ghost Step, which allows you to place a Ghost Step token on one of four offensive abilities. Having a Ghost Step token on these abilities unlocks a bonus effect, and if you have all four in play, you can even get another Roll Attempt by turning one of those tokens in.

One bonus effect is Ecto-Blades, which has you roll two dice to determine the bonus attack damage you’ll do. If both dice are the same number, you can steal health instead, and you can turn in an Ecto-Blades token to change the value of one of those dice rolls as well. Phantom Runner also has a buff named Ethereal, which allows you to spend a card and discard the token to prevent half of the incoming damage. If you have one in play, you can discard a Ghost Step token instead of a card.

The brute force member of the group is Punch-A-Tron 3000, who uses fuel cells to deliver massively powerful blows to his enemies. Punch-A-Tron 3000 seems like the easiest character to jump in with, since he only has two effects to track, in addition to his various offensive abilities.

Punch-A-Tron 3000 can have up to two Fuel Cells, which let the character spend 1 Fuel Cell to add 2 damage to their attack or spend 2 Fuel Cells and add 5 damage to their attack. The second effect is Suckerpunch, a positive buff that allows Punch-A-Tron to hit back for 2 damage if he’s attacked.

The final new character is Snyper, and this character is understandably all about precision. Everything is built off of the Prone ability, as once you are prone, you can then take advantage of any Lock-On status effects you’ve inflicted on other players. If you choose to spend any Lock-On tokens, you get a damage boost for each token, but there are even more options at your disposal.

Intel lets you draw a card and put one from your hand on the top of your deck. Snyper also has the keyword Ricochet, and when you activate a power with that keyword attached, you’ll reveal the top card of your deck to decide which of two powerful abilities you will activate that turn.
