It’s no secret that 2026 has been another landmark year for TV, especially for Apple TV. The streamer continues to set the bar for original long-form programming, bringing the best talent both in front of and behind the camera to deliver elite, original stories. If you’re looking for a new series to dive into and you have been missing a dose of Tatiana Maslany on your screens after her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2022’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, boy, do I have the show for you — Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.
What is ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’ About?

Maslany plays Paula, a divorced mom on the road to redemption. She is in the midst of a custody battle for her daughter, Hazel (Nola Wallace), as her ex, Karl (Jake Johnson), and his new partner, Mallory (Jessy Hodges), try to prove Paula isn’t capable of taking care of herself, let alone her daughter. To make things worse, her only steady relationship is one with a camboy, Trevor (Brandon Flynn).
That is, until Trevor tries to scam Paula by making it look like he has been attacked. This leads to her winding up in the middle of a very real murder investigation, and she is caught in a web of conspiracy that could potentially ruin her life. Everyone always seems to be betting against Paula, so she takes matters into her own hands to get to the bottom of this mystery while simultaneously proving she can be the most kick-ass single mom in existence.
‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’ Is Full of Incredible Performances

Tatiana Maslany proves, once again, that she is an acting force of nature. Her performance as Paula takes the audience on a journey through what a mother has to endure and overcome just to appear relatively sane to those in her orbit. It’s a true underdog story, and Maslany’s performance only makes fans want to root for her to succeed.
Jake Johnson as Karl is honestly such a surprising role for the actor, who is mostly known for being the lovable screw-up whenever he shows up on screens. It is so easy to hate Karl because of what Johnson brings to the character. You can tell there’s still some love for Paula deep down, and he’s not a villain by any means, but he gives you the feeling that you really just want to punch him in the face.
The secret MVP of this series might be the incredible Murray Bartlett, who portrays Dennis. This character is pivotal to the story in a way many fans won’t see coming. All you need to know is: don’t mess with Dennis. There’s also Rudy (Charlie Hall) and Geri (Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg), Paula’s coworkers. These two provide a very shaky, but supportive system that Paula can lean on as her life continues to spiral out of control.
Buckle Up, ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’ Is a Wild Ride

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is another major W for Apple TV, leaving on a note that begs for a Season 2. It’s smart, it’s surprising, and it even provides some laughs between the struggles and the murder laced throughout the story. The series will keep you on your toes and will leave you anticipating each new episode until the show mostly lives up to its title.
The show wears a lot of hats tonally, and for the most part, it works. Going from murder to sex workers to loving mom is sometimes a bit of an overload as a viewer, but in the end, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed makes it work satisfyingly by staying true to its central theme. Which, of course, no matter where you are in life, there’s always going to be something that needs to be worked out. Humans are always a work in progress; that’s the beauty of growth and life in general.
If you’re someone searching for a new original show that will have your head spinning with its ups and downs, add this one to your watch list immediately. This story may feel like a descent into madness at many points, but it’s really a journey of self-discovery. Just like real life, things never go the way you planned, but if you stay the course, believe in yourself, and put in the work, you can come out on top.
The first two episodes of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed are available to stream now on Apple TV, with new episodes every Wednesday.
