Descendants: The Rise of Red arrives on Disney+ on July 12. It follows Kylie Cantrall as the titular character, Red, and Malia Baker, who stars as Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella (Brandy). It’s the fourth film in the Descendants franchise and the first in nearly five years. The series has become a fan-favorite for many Disney viewers, continuing the universe of classic Walt Disney Studios films.
The cast’s chemistry is off the charts, which is highlighted in their interviews with Agents of Fandom. In addition to their on-screen connection, they genuinely appear as the best of friends off-screen as well. Malia Baker shares what it’s like to continue Brandy’s Cinderella legacy and even reveals her goal of joining the Star Wars universe.
The Path of Disney Princess to Star Wars Character Has Already Been Paved
While multiple people have played roles in Disney projects as well as characters in Star Wars, there is one whose success stands above them all. In addition to voicing one of the all-time most popular Disney princesses, Mulan, Ming-Na Wen has also starred in multiple Star Wars projects as the bounty hunter Fennec Shand. When asked if she would like to follow in her footsteps, Malia Baker confirms it would be a dream come true.
“Let me plant the seed right now. I love Star Wars. Right now, let’s plant it and manifest it… That one, or even Marvel too.”
—Malia Baker of Descendants: The Rise of Red speaking with Agents of Fandom
The precedent has already been set, and with Malia Baker’s charisma and acting ability, there’s no reason she wouldn’t fit right into the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm features an exciting slate of upcoming films, including the introduction of Rey Skywalker’s (Daisy Ridley) new Jedi Order, so many spots should be available for casting in the future.
Malia Baker Celebrates Amandla Stenberg’s Success in ‘The Acolyte’
Although she was already a fan, Malia Baker admits that seeing Amandla Stenberg star in The Acolyte enhances her love of the franchise. The new Star Wars series has been a massive success despite online discourse, and Stenberg has been leading the charge with incredible performances portraying two different characters, twins Osha and Mae.
“I met Amandla Stenberg recently at the Disney Upfront event and I geeked out. I was like girl, you got to do it, you did it! She’s incredible, and I’m excited to see The Acolyte.”

Despite the insecure, toxic side of the Star Wars fan base review-bombing The Acolyte, Leslye Headland, Amandla Stenberg, and the entire cast and crew have delivered something special. Baker’s excitement is well-placed, and hopefully, she can continue in the Disney family as a member of the Star Wars universe in the future.
‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ Arrives on Disney+ July 12
The fourth installment in the Descendants franchise is set to continue Cinderella’s story, this time through the lens of her daughter. Malia Baker crushes the role, and her future beyond Descendants: The Rise of Red is incredibly bright. Here’s to hoping she lands a role in a Star Wars project sometime soon!
