When a beautiful sunlit house appears in the distance, the coven realizes this is the location of their first trial. Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp) strays from the path and almost perishes to begin Agatha All Along Episode 3 by being pulled into a pit of mud. Still, the witches are able to save her despite literally and figuratively being in over her head. They enter the house and immediately transform into a new set of outfits, and the first trial begins.

They are instructed to drink a poisoned wine that makes their faces swell up, requiring the coven’s potions expert, Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), to step up and make an antidote. Unfortunately for the coven, but to the delight of viewers, when Mrs. Hart chugs multiple glasses, and Agatha refuses to drink her share of the poison, chaos ensues.

As Jen tries to brew the potion, she warns Teen not to trust Agatha as the witch’s secret past slowly unravels. She reveals speculation that the witch once traded her own son, Nicholas Scratch, for control over the Darkhold. WandaVision and Agatha All Along head writer Jac Schaeffer clearly heard the fan theories throughout her first series because she dives head first into them in Agatha All Along Episode 3, as one of the potential collaborators mentioned alongside Agatha is none other than Mephisto, Marvel’s version of the Devil.

The potential connection to Mephisto makes the theory that Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) could potentially be Blackheart all the more likely. Jen’s warnings to not trust Agatha prove true as she refuses to drink her share of the poison and tries to flee the house, to no avail. Eventually, Agatha participates in the trial and hallucinates memories of her lost child, Nicholas Scratch. Before the nightmare worsens, Jen brews the antidote to free everyone from the poison’s shackles. Well, almost everyone.

They escape through a portal at the last possible moment to move on to the second trial, but when they pass through, they realize one of their coven members didn’t make it. Since Mrs. Hart drank more of the poison than anyone else and didn’t get the second dose of antidote in time, she perishes, and her journey on the Witches’ Road comes to a close in Agatha All Along Episode 3.

Although the lack of Aubrey Plaza in the latest installment is definitely a glaring omission, Agatha All Along continues the trend of the first two episodes, putting forth a thrilling mystery and laugh-out-loud comedy with each step down the Witches’ Road.
