Warning: Spoilers ahead for Agatha All Along Episode 5, “Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power.”
If the trials of the Witches’ Road weren’t enough of a challenge, the Salem Seven is also on Agatha Harkness’ (Kathryn Hahn) tail. The seven daughters of the witches killed by Agatha during her days in Salem are hot on her trail, delivering some incredibly spooky moments in Agatha All Along.
However, while the rest of the coven quickly condemns Agatha for her actions, Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) defends the witch’s honor, furthering the mystery of their past together. Despite the danger in their midst, Agatha’s coven is poised to complete the trials and make it to the end of the Witches’ Road. Check out all the details from our Agatha All Along Episode 5, “Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power” recap below!
Agatha Harkness Flees the Salem Seven in “Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power”
The coven magically summons a series of brooms to fly away from the Salem Seven, despite Lilia’s (Patti LuPone) hilarious pleas to the contrary due to her dislike of the stereotypes associated with the flying device. They manage to reach the location of the next trial at the last possible moment, narrowly escaping their hunters.
Upon entering the house, the coven’s outfits swap to 1980s-style sleepover attire. While there have been many costume swaps to mimic different eras similar to each WandaVision episode, one in particular stands out in Agatha All Along Episode 5. Notably, Teen (Joe Locke) heavily resembles the comic book character Wiccan, the son of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).
Agatha Is Haunted by a Ghost in ‘Agatha All Along’
However, despite the fun retro dress code in Agatha All Along Episode 5, Agatha Harkness’ turn for a dangerous trial on the Witches’ Road is set to begin. The coven breaks out the Ouija board in the room and summons a spirit that transforms Agatha into a terrifying demon that attacks the group like a scene straight out of The Exorcist. Luckily, before she does any real damage, they dispel the spirit out of her body, revealing it to be Agatha’s mother, Evanora Harkness (Kate Forbes).
Evanora wants to punish Agatha for her past crimes and suggests the only way the coven can complete the trial is to leave their leader behind. Although Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) is adamant the group should sacrifice Agatha for their cause, Rio Vidal once again denounces the idea, painting Agatha as the victim of her mother’s schemes. Unfortunately, Evanora transfers her consciousness back into Agatha’s body and attacks the group.
Wiccan Is Finally Introduced to the MCU in ‘Agatha All Along’ Episode 5
In a desperate attempt to quell the spirit, Alice Wu (Ali Ahn) blasts Agatha with her protection magic, but it doesn’t go as planned. Agatha immediately begins absorbing Alice’s power, leaving her completely lifeless. Teen steps in and notices the spirit from the Ouija board is actually Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch, which causes Agatha to pause. Unfortunately, it’s too late, and Alice Wu has fallen.
Teen screams at Agatha in a rage for the murder she just committed, but she pleads that it was an accident and that she can’t control her power. He doesn’t believe her, and Agatha immediately changes her tune. She dawns an evil smile and tells him that she knows exactly who he is, and that he reminds her of his mother.
In his rage, Teen reveals his true self as Wanda’s son Billy, also known as Wiccan. He magically possesses Lilia and Jen, who toss Agatha into a mudpool which sucks her down, before he launches the rest of the coven into the danger after her. Agatha All Along Episode 5 concludes with an epic Billie Eilish needle drop and a plethora of questions as Agatha, Lilia, and Jen sink to their apparent deaths.
‘Agatha All Along’ Episode 5 Review: A Huge Mid-Season Reveal
It’s important to recognize Jac Schaeffer‘s writing prowess in this series. Even though most viewers saw this reveal coming from a mile away, she still makes it come across as breathtakingly powerful. However, even with Teen’s true identity unveiled, many questions remain unanswered.
Agatha, Jen, and Lilia can’t really be dead, right? Why was Rio Vidal nowhere to be seen at the episode’s conclusion? With four episodes remaining in the series, the mystery of where the story will go from here is as intriguing as ever.
