‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ Leads the Projects Coming to Amazon Prime Video in February 2024

The streaming platform is bringing in well-themed projects for the month of love.

Prime Video is growing to be a formidable contender in the ongoing streaming wars. Not many other platforms can compete with the colossal and resourceful Amazon brand that backs up Prime Video. With this network, the streaming service continues to invest in high-quality content like Gen V and Invincible.

They also work with various studios and filmmakers to be the main digital platform for their projects following their theatrical runs, as showcased by Ben Affleck‘s Air and Emerald Fennell‘s Saltburn. While Prime Video doesn’t have as many users as Netflix, they are still second overall with an estimated 200,000,000 subscribers.

Most well-known for his comedic work, Jordan Peele surprised fans and critics with his first directing job in the psychological horror film, Get Out. Through his writing and directing, Peele demonstrated that he can create a unique storyline that ties social commentary with horror and comedy. The film received four Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Daniel Kaluuya), and Best Original Screenplay. Peele won for Best Original Screenplay, making him the first Black screenwriter to achieve this.

‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’

Based on Simon Kinberg‘s Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie comes a new Prime Video series with the same title. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are stepping into the titular roles as spies who get paired up to be in a cover marriage. The series follows the newfound relationship as they take part in different missions while learning more about each other. With Amazon’s budget backing the project, the show will feature notable guest stars like Michaela Coel, Paul Dano, Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sarah Paulson, and Ron Perlman. All eight episodes are available to stream on February 2.

Satirical teen comedy Bottoms follows best friends PJ (Rachel Sennott) and Josie (Ayo Edebiri) as they start a secret fight club to have sex before they graduate high school. This hilarious story is equal parts a throwback to 2000s films with its musical cues and comedic timing, and a modern-day classic with its relevant themes and dialogue. If you haven’t already taken the time to see this flick, make sure to prioritize Bottoms when it becomes available on Prime Video.

Jennifer Lopez is premiering This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, a 65-minute film tying in with the release of her ninth studio album, This Is Me…Now — her first studio album in a decade. The trailer features a variety of genres as the singer/actor embarks on an adventure in fantastical and realistic settings. The film has special appearances from Ben Affleck, Trevor Noah, Keke Palmer, Post Malone, Sofía Vergara, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and more celebrities. This Is Me…Now is described as a “narrative-driven cinematic odyssey, steeped in mythological storytelling and personal healing.”

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has been around since 1984, with stories told across comics, TV series, video games, and films. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a refreshing take on the heroes with a half-shell because the turtles are voiced by real teenagers, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Brady Noon as Raphael, Micah Abbey as Donatello, and Shamon Brown as Michaelangelo. At its core, the leads are teens looking for acceptance in a new environment, something audiences can relate to. The film is also similar to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with its distinctive use of animation styles and techniques, showcased well during action sequences.
