After months of speculation, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), one of the most beloved Star Wars characters, will make her return in a brand new season of her standalone series. Buried at the bottom of a surprising news drop about a movie focused on The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu, the Star Wars team also confirmed that Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni is developing Ahsoka Season 2.
The series premiere received 829 million minutes of viewership across the United States during the week of August 21-27, according to Disney+. It was the second-highest premiere for a Star Wars project following Obi-Wan Kenobi, which earned 1.03 billion viewing minutes. Following the positive reception and success of Ahsoka Season 1, it comes as no surprise that a sophomore entry is in the works. With Ahsoka Episode 8 leaving questions unanswered and opening the door for more adventures, there are plenty of places for the story to go.
When Can We Expect ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2?
While it’s exciting news that we’ll see the continued adventures of Ahsoka, it may not happen as soon as fans hope. Ahsoka was one of the many projects that were affected by the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023. In an interview with the Dagobah Dispatch, Dawson said there has yet to be any discussions regarding Ahsoka Season 2.
“We’re supposed to be having a dinner soon, of the whole cast, which will be really nice because I haven’t seen everyone. I was very jealous seeing everyone at some of their cons recently, which I wasn’t able to be at.”

Months before the official news was released, Filoni told Entertainment Weekly where he would take the story of Ahsoka.
“I’ve set up several threads that can continue, but if not, I feel like, well, at least I got Ezra home, and that was really important. But there’s always a plan. I hope one day we’ll see it. It could be very cool, but it took a while to get [Ahsoka] done, so you never know.”

With Filoni stepping into his new role as Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm, he’ll be working directly with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and producer Carrie Beck to oversee the various Star Wars projects in development. With Ahsoka Season 2, The Mandalorian and Grogu, The Mandalorian Season 4, and Filoni’s Mando-verse movie all in the works, the connective tissue is closer and closer to being weaved together.
How Will ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Tie Into the Star Wars Universe?
With Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) returning to the main Star Wars galaxy at the end of Ahsoka Season 1, he will be a major asset to the Empire, and a threat to the rest of the universe. During Star Wars Celebration 2023, Filoni shared that his untitled film will focus on the “escalating war between the Imperial remnant and the New Republic.” He added that it would be a bridge between The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and his Imperial war council have discussed Thrawn’s return in The Mandalorian Season 3. With Din Djarin teaming up with the Rangers of the New Republic, fans can expect to see our favorite Mandalorian join the fight against Thrawn. Although Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ahsoka are stuck in another galaxy at the end of Ahsoka Season 1, Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) makes it through to reunite with Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and can warn her of Thrawn’s army of troopers.
With Ezra, Ahsoka, and Sabine having a shared Force connection, it won’t be long before Ezra figures out a way to bring Ahsoka and Sabine back. While it seems that all these players are spread out across the galaxy (and a completely different galaxy), Filoni’s involvement in all these projects has laid the groundwork for an epic showdown with Thrawn and our heroes.
