‘Agatha All Along’ Episode 2 Recap & Review: Down, Down the Witches’ Road

While the first episode of Agatha All Along is heavily inspired by its predecessor, WandaVision, the next installment takes on a unique identity. Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) has regained her memories and is ready to take back her power by any means necessary.

Although he only plays a minor role in the first episode, Teen (Joe Locke) now takes center stage. However, each time he tries to tell Agatha his real name or backstory, his mouth and voice are disguised by a mysterious spell. They embark on a quest to open the Witches’ Road, but must first form a coven to open the gate. The All-Star Cast Assembles in “Circle Sewn With Fate Unlock Thy Hidden Gate”

It can’t just be any witches asked to join the coven — they each need a specific skill set. Their first visit in Agatha All Along Episode 2 is to Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), a witch skilled in divination. While both Lilia and Agatha play coy at the beginning as they test each other, Lilia reveals she recognized Agatha from the minute she walked in the door. She refuses to join their coven but has a vision of a list of names destined to be part of their journey. To her dismay, her own name is on the list.

Agatha refuses to share the names on the list with Teen, but they still embark together to find the next witch. Throughout their journey, Agatha notices various animals, the mystical avatars for Salem’s Seven, have been following her. With no time to waste, they recruit a potions expert named Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) and a protection witch whose mother, Lorna Wu, wrote the famous “Witches’ Road” ballad, Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn). However, one person with a specific type of Earth magic is still missing from their coven, a Green Witch.

‘Agatha All Along’ Sets the Stage for a Multitude of Weekly Theories

The final person on the list isn’t represented by a name but by a single black heart in Agatha All Along Episode 2. This is a reference to Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) from the last episode, as Agatha previously referred to her as heartless, but Rio responded by saying that she does have a heart, it’s just black. While this could easily be a simple callback and representation of their failed relationship, the reference also opens the doors for a plethora of theories for fans to investigate the true identity of Rio Vidal. Marvel Comic readers and fans of the Nic Cage Ghost Rider movies will know that Blackheart is the child of Mephisto.

Since Agatha wants nothing to do with Rio, she instead targets a regular civilian with a green thumb, Sharon Davis, also known as Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp), to join the coven. With Salem’s Seven on their tale, the coven assembles to sing “Ballad of the Witches’ Road” together to open the gate. With stunning vocals and beautiful visuals, the song opens the Witches’ Road as Teen fights off Salem’s Seven upstairs. He makes it down to the gate just in time, and the journey to acquire their greatest desires officially begins.

‘Agatha All Along’ Episode 2 Review: When One Door Closes, Another Opens

Mrs. Hart’s addition provides great comedic relief, as Debra Jo Rupp essentially plays Kitty Forman from That ’70s Show if she was abducted by witches. The episode concludes as their quest begins, with Agatha All Along Episode 2 stepping out of the shadow left by WandaVision and into its own exciting new adventure.
