With emotions running high and lives potentially at stake, the Sekai Taikai is an explosive start to this new batch of episodes. Follow along with our Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 6 “Benvinguts a Barcelona” recap for all the details.
It’s a Battle of the Minds in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Episode 6
Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 6 picks up right where Part 1 ended as Gunther Braun (Carsten Norgaard) announces the rules of the Sekai Taikai. Tory and Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee) are the Cobra Kai captains, while Robby and Sam are Miyagi-Do’s captains. Sam questions if Robby knew about Tory joining Cobra Kai, but he’s just as surprised as everyone else.
As the students settle in their hotel, Johnny blames Daniel for Tory being with Cobra Kai, and says he has plans to take Kreese “out of commission.” But Daniel warns him that it’s not going to be easy getting rid of him. Daniel calls his wife, Amanda LaRusso (Courtney Henggeler), to fill her in on what’s going on. He hasn’t heard from Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) yet, but he hopes Chozen shows up at the cocktail mixer for the Sekai Taikai senseis. Daniel plans to impress the sponsors to help Miyagi-Do get some funding and make the dojo recognizable all over the world.
While Tory is settling in her room, Kim Da-Eun and Kreese tell her to get ready for a team event. Tory tries to brush them off, and Kim Da-Eun makes it clear that she doesn’t want Tory on the team. Tory agreed to be captain so she could be the last one fighting. As Kim Da-Eun storms out, Kreese reassures Tory by saying she’ll make her mom proud.
Chozen Returns in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Episode 6
At the Sekai Taikai cocktail mixer, Johnny almost gets into a fight with someone (Lewis Tan) for taking the last two steaks. Daniel stops it from escalating because the man could be a sponsor. Later on, Daniel shares his story as Mr. Miyagi’s (Pat Morita) first student with some sponsors. He asks one of them about Mr. Miyagi’s mysterious Sekai Taikai captain headband. Noticing the blood on the headband, Gunther says that Daniel should talk to Master Serrano for answers about the tournaments back in the day.
Meanwhile, Johhny tries to make a good impression with a sponsor after hearing that they pay college tuition for Sekai Taikai champions. Kreese arrives and says he won’t show Johnny any mercy. Johhny threatens to expose that Kreese escaped from prison, but Kreese notes that the charges were dropped. Daniel breaks up a potential fight, but Kreese also threatens him by saying he has a lot to lose. Out of nowhere, Chozen makes a loud and drunk entrance claiming he’s with Miyagi-Do.
Chozen tells Johnny and Daniel that he went to Okinawa to fix things with Kumiko, but a good-looking man in a towel opened the door while she was in the shower. Jumping to conclusions, Chozen stormed off. Seeing the flowers he bought for her all around the cocktail mixer, Chozen smashes them, causing Gunter to kick them out. Kim Da-Eun and Kreese grin in the distance at how the Miyagi-Do senseis are presenting themselves.
Tory Questions Her Decision To Rejoin Cobra Kai
At a photo shoot for the Sekai Taikai captains, Robby and Tory exchange looks, while another captain (Rayna Vallandingham) finds Robby cute. Tory walks away, but Robby follows and warns her that Kreese is manipulating her again. As Robby tries to convince her to leave Cobra Kai, Sam arrives and Tory leaves again. Devon finds Tory and says she gets why Tory rejoined Cobra Kai, but she says the Miyagi-Do team is worried about her and Robby. With Tory being on another team, Robby is off his game.
Tory questions if she made the right choice, but Sam shows up and tells Devon it’s time to go. Tory tells Sam that she doesn’t want to be put in this situation with Miyagi-Do. Sam questions why she didn’t go to her or Robby about what she was dealing with, but Tory says she told Robby when Kreese first approached her about rejoining Cobra Kai. Sam respects Tory’s choice even though she doesn’t agree with it, but warns Tory that she won’t hesitate if they end up fighting each other in the Sekai Taikai.
The Miyagi-Do Team Are off Their Game in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Episode 6
The rest of the Sekai Taikai students have a friendly high kick competition and Kwon Jae-Sung taunts Miyagi-Do to participate. As Hawk gets ready, Robby returns and says they’re leaving. But Kwon Jae-Sung brings up Tory being on Cobra Kai to get on Robby’s nerves. Robby makes a bet with him that whoever kicks higher gets the loser’s hotel room.
Kwon Jae-Sung wins, so Robby gives him the key to his room with Demetri. They go to Tory and Devon’s room to hang out, and Sam calls out Robby for knowing that Kreese tried to reenlist Tory in Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 5. Robby tries to defend himself, but Sam says he should’ve known better about Kreese’s manipulation, and even Miguel can’t side with Robby.
Having trouble sleeping, Robby goes to Tory’s room to talk, but she says they should focus on karate so they can be the best captains for their respective teams. Robby thinks Tory’s breaking up with him, but she calls it a pause since it’s the best thing for them at the moment. Disagreeing with her, he storms off by saying she doesn’t trust anyone but herself.
The First Sekai Taikai Challenge Starts in “Benvinguts a Barcelona”
The next day, the first event of the Sekai Taikai known as “The Captain’s War” starts, where four dojos compete to protect their captains from the other teams. If a team member hits the mat, they’re out. If one of the captains hits the mat, the entire dojo is out. Miyagi-Do, Cobra Kai, Iron Dragons, and Falchi Della Notte are first up.
As the match begins, Tory launches an assault on Miyagi-Do, and the rest of the team follows as Kwon Jae-Sung kicks down Demetri. Miguel knocks one of the Cobra Kai members down, but Tory also manages to get Devon on the mat. Yoon Do-Jin (Daniel Kim) also knocks Hawk out. With Miguel, Sam, and Robby left, they’re evenly matched with Kwon Jae-Sung, Yoon Do-Jin, and Tory, but Kwon Jae-Sung throws Robby down, eliminating Miyagi-Do.
The Iron Dragons also defeat Falchi Della Notte, but they don’t move to attack Cobra Kai. As Cobra Kai rushes to them, the Iron Dragons members move out of the way to let their captains (one of them is the girl who found Robby cute) fight against Kwon Jae-Sung, Yoon Do-Jin, and Tory. The Iron Dragons captains easily take them out and secure the victory. The final moment of Cobra Kai Season 6 Episode 6 shows that the man who was arguing with Johnny at the cocktail mixer is the Iron Dragons leader, Sensei Wolf (Tan).
‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Part 2 Is a Stellar Return
Already starting with a loss isn’t a good sign for Miyagi-Do. The team and the senseis need to get their act together soon because the other dojos are sweeping the floor with them. Watching these characters work their hardest over six seasons has been a great journey, but they’re instantly humbled by the skill and strategic planning of the other teams.
The Karate Kid series may be coming to an end, but it’s not showing any signs of slowing down. The fight choreography this season has been some of the best of the series, and Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2 keeps the momentum going. The drama and tension between the characters may be a tiring cycle for the show, but it’ll only make their union all the more meaningful whenever they do reconcile.
