’Blue Beetle’s Harvey Guillén Teases Potential Role in James Gunn’s DCU… "We Were Texting"
Harvey Guillén’s Dr. Sanchez seemingly perishes in ’Blue Beetle’s climax, but he may yet live on in the DCU.

There is one fundamental rule regarding deaths in comic book movies: If a body isn’t shown, the character isn’t officially dead. Near the end of 2023’s Blue Beetle, Dr. Sanchez (Harvey Guillén) appears to sacrifice himself to allow Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) to escape from Carapax (Raoul Max Trujillo). Although blood splatters on the window and it seems like Dr. Sanchez is dead, Harvey Guillén shared an exciting update about his potential return as the doctor or debut as an entirely new character.
Harvey Guillén Addresses Dr. Sanchez’s ‘Blue Beetle’ Death

When speaking to Aisha Shabeese of Agents of Fandom at Toronto Comicon, Harvey Guillén talked about whether he’d spoken to James Gunn about either reprising his role as Dr. Sanchez or stepping into a new role in the DCU:
“Yeah I did speak with him, I think we were texting and here’s the thing, we know going forward we know we’re going to see more of Blue Beetle as a character, and we don’t know what the future holds… We also never saw the body, when we see him we just see blood splatter, and we interpret what happens, but we didn’t see the final product.”
—Harvey Guillén on potentially reprising his role going forward and his interpretation of Dr. Sanchez’s supposed death.
Harvey Guillén also had this to say when asked if he would consider coming back:
“I don’t know if I’d consider it, I’d say anything is possible in the DC world and James has done a fantastic job taking the ship in a direction we can all be excited about.”
—Harvey Guillén on if he would return and star in another DC film.
‘Blue Beetle’s DCU Future Remains Unknown and Exciting
In an interview with Screen Rant, Xolo Maridueña revealed that Blue Beetle the character would return in James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s DCU. Blue Beetle was one of the final films in the DCEU, and while its story may be forgotten, the characters and actors may yet live on in the DCU. The new DCU officially launches in 2025 with Superman, starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Milly Alcock, Isabela Merced, and more.
