The episode opens on a beach with Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and her dragon Syrax standing face-to-face with Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty) and he bends the knee and offers to bring Seasmoke to Dragonstone. Back in King’s Landing, Maester Orwyle (Kurt Egyiawan) patches up Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and she asks to go out into the city with only Ser Rickard (Vincent Regan) as an escort. Jasper Wylde (Paul Kennedy) tells Larys (Matthew Needham) about Seasmoke but Larys doesn’t believe him.

Addam and Rhaenyra return to Dragonstone and Rhaenyra orders him to train as a dragon rider. Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) tells Rhaenyra they should be looking for more recent bastards, not long-lost Targaryens and she agrees. Lord Corlys (Steve Toussaint) visits his son Addam and tells him “well done.” Back at Harrenhal, Oscar Tully (Archie Barnes) isn’t sure if his banners will listen to him because he’s young, and they all hate Daemon (Matt Smith).

Daemon addresses the Riverlords and Oscar insists he will swear loyalty to Rhaenyra because of his grandfather’s loyalty to Viserys (Paddy Considine). Oscar Tully then orders Daemon to kill Willem Blackwood (Jack Parry-Jones) and he does. Back in his room, Daemon has another vision of an old and sickly Viserys who taunts him with the crown, which he refuses to take. In King’s Landing, Maester Orwyle teaches Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) to walk and Larys visits him to speed up the process.

House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 7 continues on Driftmark, where Corlys tells Alyn (Abubakar Salim) that his brother is a dragon rider while Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) leaves The Vale’s castle and heads out into the wilderness. Alicent and Ser Rickard are out in the forest, and she says she’s unsure if she wants to return to the city. Back on Dragonstone, Jace is upset that the lowborn are claiming dragons, yet he doesn’t have a better plan. He confronts his mother about his Strong heritage, but she says she has no other choice but to go through with this.

Mysaria then delivers Alyn some parchment which makes its way into King’s Landing as a note to tell all bastards to come to Dragonstone. Both Ulf the White (Tom Bennett) and Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew) agree to go, and it’s revealed that Hugh’s mother was Daemon and Viserys’ sister. The new hopeful riders arrive on Dragonstone while Alicent continues to peruse the woods alone. The lead Valyrian dragon trainer says they won’t help Rhaenyra find new riders because it’s not the proper way.

Rhaenyra then gives an inspiring speech and offers to help the bastards herself. She warns them about Vermithor, aka The Bronze Fury, and says they’ll go down to see him now. She calls Vermithor, but another must take their place as his rider. A lowborn steps forward but Vermithor torches him and then goes on rampage on the rest of the bastards. Vermithor continues to burn people alive until Hugh stands up to him and then claims him.

Ulf then wanders into Silverwing’s lair and steps on one of her dragon eggs, but she heels and lets him claim her. Back in King’s Landing, shouts of a dragon in the sky interrupt a small council meeting and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) rides out swiftly to meet them on Vhagar. He pursues Silverwing until he gets near Dragonstone and sees three large dragons waiting for him, then he decides to turn around and head home, knowing he is severely outmatched.

Team Black has been down in the trenches most of the season, but the tides have officially shifted in their favor. While previously their largest dragon was Caraxes, who has been stuck at Harrenhal most of the season, they now have Vermithor, Silverwing, and Seasmoke all ready to stand against Vhagar. The penultimate episode of House of the Dragon sets up an epic conclusion that will surely see loss, devastation, destruction, and dragons.
