Warning: Spoilers ahead for Agatha All Along Episode 8, “Follow Me My Friend/To Glory At The End.”
Although Agatha All Along starts silly and fun, it takes serious and emotional turns throughout the series that continuously hit harder and harder with each passing episode. The relationship between Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and Billy Maximoff (Joe Locke) provides constant intrigue, with the writing never allowing viewers to fully know whether they will join forces or betray each other.
At no point does it feel like Billy’s life is truly in danger, but that doesn’t take away from the excitement. With Agatha’s long history alongside Death herself, Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), it’s a true mystery which character she will side with and which she will betray. Agatha has always put herself above anyone else, so when Rio gives her an ultimatum that either she or Billy must meet their demise, all hell breaks loose. Check out all the details from our Agatha All Along Episode 8, “Follow Me My Friend/To Glory At The End” recap below!
Death Comes for Agatha and Billy in “Follow Me My Friend/To Glory At The End”
Rio refers to Billy as an abomination against life itself, with his existence throwing off the cosmic balance of the universe in Agatha All Along Episode 8. With the threat of incursions rampant in the Marvel Universe, this may be a more worrisome threat than Agatha realizes. However, despite Rio’s pleas for her former lover’s help in taking down the son of the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) — which she can’t do herself because he could transfer his consciousness to another body — it’s clear her actual target is Agatha.
Although Agatha agrees to help Rio by getting Billy to turn himself over to her, it’s unclear whether or not she will follow through. Agatha Harkness never reveals her true intent to others. However, before the subsequent trial of the Witches’ Road begins, Rio also reveals she fears Billy will help create another being of a similar nature to himself by transferring the consciousness of his twin brother Tommy into another person on their deathbed.
Meanwhile, Billy and Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) are still mourning the sacrifice of their fallen coven sister, Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone). When they eventually reunite with Agatha, they realize they have come full circle on the Witches’ Road and are right back at the beginning — where they left their shoes to start their journey. However, when they put on their shoes in protest of the road’s rules, they are transported to the location of their following trial in Agatha All Along Episode 8.
Wiccan Officially Enters the MCU With ‘Agatha All Along’
Jen is the first to make it through the trial after finding out Agatha bound her; after completing the unbinding ritual, her pink-hued powers reappear. Sasheer Zamata delivers a beautifully emotional and heartfelt performance as she regains her abilities. However, once she is reunited with her powers, she successfully receives what she wants from the Road and is transported back to reality in Agatha All Along Episode 8. Now, it’s only Billy and Agatha remaining on the Witches’ Road.
The two of them search through Billy’s consciousness and harness his powers so he can revive his brother Tommy, who doesn’t yet have a human host for his soul. After struggling on his own, Agatha helps him locate a boy who is drowning after a prank by his peers and is about to lose his life. Although viewers don’t see his face, Tommy Maximoff is reborn into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With his success, Billy is transported out of the Road. Agatha eventually escapes as well by embracing her past. Unfortunately, when she returns, Rio Vidal is hot (literally and figuratively) on her trail. With Billy gone, Rio gets what she wants — to lead Agatha to her demise. Agatha is no match without her powers until Billy descends from the sky in his full Wiccan comic book attire to provide backup for his mentor. He allows Agatha to siphon some of his powers before they go toe-to-toe with Lady Death.
‘Agatha All Along’ Episode 8 Review: Agatha Harkness Makes the Ultimate Sacrifice
Sadly, Agatha and Billy are no match for Rio, leading to Billy offering to make the ultimate sacrifice for Agatha. He thinks she’ll stop him, but she lets him go through with it until he asks he if this is also how her son died. The memories of her Nicholas Scratch provide Agatha with a change of heart, and she embraces Rio for one final kiss.
However, Agatha’s death isn’t the biggest reveal of Agatha All Along Episode 8. When he returns home to his parents and his room, Billy realizes that all the costumes, locations, and elements of the Witches’ Road come directly from his memories and imagination. Like his mother in WandaVision, Billy has manifested an entirely new reality. For Wanda, it was the Hex; for Billy, the Witches’ Road. Before Billy’s realization is fulfilled, he is startled by Agatha’s voice calling out to him as the episode ends. The first of the two-part Agatha All Along finale concludes with an epic cliffhanger after a thrilling penultimate installment.
