‘That ’90s Show’ Receives Renewal From Netflix Amid Password Controversy

We’re all alright after news of ‘That ‘90s Show’ renewal.

Fans of That ’70s Show are happily revisiting Point Place, Wisconsin since the release of That ’90s Show on Netflix. While it seems to be a hit among viewers, there was concern the series could be cancelled.

Netflix is known to cancel its series‘ after only one season. Despite that trend, the company confirmed a second season for That ’90s Show on February 3. Deadline also reports the new season will have 16 episodes, while the first has 10. The series premiered on January 19, 2023, and quickly landed on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list with over 41 million hours viewed.

That ’90s Show renewal confirmed

That ’90s Show focuses on Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon). When visiting her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Foreman (Debra Jo Rupp) during the summer of 1995, she meets a group of friends that give her a sense of adventure. After experiencing a memorable night, Leia chooses to stay with Red and Kitty in Point Place for the summer to strengthen the bonds with her new friends.

Gregg Mettler, co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner said about the renewal, “All of us at That ’90s Show were beyond excited by the warm, enthusiastic response to our first season. We can’t wait to return to Point Place for another summer of laughs and surprises. Hello, 1996!”

What to expect from season 2

Straightaway, fans should notice that Mettler says “1996”. The first season ends in the summer of ’95 with Leia returning home to Chicago. With this in mind, will the next season have a time jump to the summer of ’96 when Leia can revisit Point Place? Or could we see a look at her social and family life in Chicago? Doing so would give showrunners a chance to better highlight the dynamic between Leia and her parents—another way to bring the series’ full circle.

Nevertheless, viewers can rest assured that this story will continue. In fact, why not binge all 10 episodes of That ’90s Show on Netflix again? What are you hoping to see next season?
