Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima Episode 2, “Glorio,” ahead.
After Dragon Ball Daima Episode 1 was partly a clip show and information dump, the next entry in Akira Toriyama‘s original anime still sets the groundwork for what this series will be. Worried that Goku (Masako Nozawa), Vegeta (Yudai Mino), and the other Z Fighters may be a threat, the new Demon King, Gomah (Showtaro Morikubo), has come to Earth to make them younger using the Dragon Balls.
While this premise can feel like a retread of Dragon Ball GT on a grander scale, the late Toriyama’s talents are all over Dragon Ball Daima in a great way. There are many moments to laugh and smile at, and longtime fans will feel nostalgic seeing a young Goku with a key item from his past. The foundation is now set for the series in Dragon Ball Daima Episode 2, so follow along with our “Glorio” recap below!
‘Dragon Ball Daima’ Episode 2 Establishes New Rules
Dragon Ball Daima Episode 2 picks up immediately from the series premiere as Shenron (Ryūzaburō Ōtomo) is about to bid farewell after turning the Z Fighters younger. Gomah is confused that he’s already leaving after only granting one wish since they saw he could make three wishes come true. Shenron notes that people who regularly summon him get two extra wishes as a bonus, while “unknown first-timers only get one wish.”
Frustrated by this, Gomah says he should’ve just wished for the Evil Third Eye, an item that grants the user unbelievable power. He contemplates using the Demon Realm Dragon Balls to grant that wish, but he’d have to fight the powerful Tamagamis guarding it. He asks if Neva (Hiroshi Naka) can summon Shenron again but Neva says he can’t do it twice in a row. They decide to take Dende (Erina Goto) — who’s transformed into a baby — as a hostage for ulterior plans.
The Z Fighters Are Turned Younger in ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ Episode 2
The episode cuts to the Z Fighters as they try to make sense of what’s going on. They’re younger, but their maturity and knowledge are still as it was when they were older. Goku tries flying to The Lookout, but he crashes almost instantly as Master Roshi — now going by Big Kamesennin (Nobuaki Kanemitsu) in his mini form — tells him he’s not used to balancing his small size just yet.
Supreme Kai (Yumiko Kobayashi) and Kibito (Shin Aomori) teleport Goku and Piccolo to The Lookout as a mini Mr. Popo (Kimiko Saito) fills them in on what happened. Supreme Kai is frustrated that his younger brother, Degesu (Junya Enoki), is involved. Determined to save Dende, Kibito teleports Bulma (Mai Nakahara) and Vegeta to The Lookout so they can repair Supreme Kai’s old ship to travel to the Demon Realm.
Two days later, Goku has been training and adjusting to his new size. He grabs the Nyoibō, the power pole he used as a kid in Dragon Ball, from Kamesennin to help with his reach when fighting. Meanwhile, Kibito explains that once traveling was established, many Majin from the Demon Realm left to seek freedom or rule planets, and the powers that be ultimately made it forbidden to leave. Beings have to be permitted if they want to travel out of the Demon Realm.
Glorio Arrives To Assist the Z Fighters
As they’re enjoying a dinner on The Lookout, the Z Fighters notice a Demon Realm ship coming towards them. Inside is the mysterious man who was listening to Gomah and Degesu’s evil plan in Dragon Ball Daima Episode 1. He introduces himself as Glorio and requests that Goku accompany him to the Demon Realm to defeat Demon King Gomah. With his brother involved, Supreme Kai decides to join as well. Supreme Kai also doesn’t trust Glorio since he didn’t act surprised that Goku was younger.
Before they go off, Bulma inspects Glorio’s ship to help with her repairs on Supreme Kai’s ship. Vegeta asks to go as well, but Glorio’s ship can only hold three people. Supreme Kai says Vegeta can go when Bulma finishes fixing up his ship. The episode ends as Glorio, Supreme Kai, and Goku fly off to the Demon Realm.
This Vegeta fan is upset that the character is taking a backseat, but Goku fighting with the power pole again is going to be interesting to see. While it feels like Dragon Ball Daima should’ve had a two-part series premiere, the next episode will finally see Goku in the Demon Realm and show off Toriyama’s new and original designs for the franchise.
Dragon Ball Daima is available to stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix with Japanese audio and subtitles in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. New episodes are released weekly on Fridays.
