However, as the trio starts putting the pieces together of Sazz’s presence in Charles’ apartment looking just like him, they realize that Charles may have been the target all along.

As the team begins to investigate, they deduce the shot must have come from the West Tower of The Arconia, the portion of the building filled with many odd and eccentric characters — and now, suspects. Check out all the details from our Only Murders in the Building Season 4, Episode 2 recap below!

Despite there already being multiple murders that have taken place in the main building of The Arconia, the gang describes the West Tower as though it’s a mysterious dungeon full of miscreants. Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Oliver (Martin Short) venture over to the building to question the tenants of potential sniper locations, where Only Murders in the Building Season 4, Episode 2 introduces a new set of exciting guest stars.

Although they’ve never met any of the tenants personally, Charles has watched them from his apartment through the years and has felt a series of bad vibes. From an angry man he calls Stink-Eye Joe (Richard Kind) to a Christmas-crazed bodybuilder (Kumail Nanjiani), each set of renters has their own suspicious traits.

However, after discovering one of the apartments has a code lock to enter, Mabel and Oliver are thwarted before they can ask about it as they get sucked into a card game called “Oh Hell” with a group of tenants. While the group doesn’t behave how Charles described, they have a plethora of odd traditions, including a mini butcher shop of pork in their bathroom that raises suspicions in Only Murders in the Building Season 4, Episode 2.

Charles stays behind as he is still reeling in the aftermath of discovering Sazz’s death. While the tone is serious, Only Murders in the Building does a terrific job of toeing the line between comedy and drama, as Charles is still covered in Sazz’s ashes, which he previously dumped on the floor. However, if the grieving and hallucinations weren’t enough, Charles also receives a visit from his escaped convict ex-girlfriend, who was dating Sazz before she died, Jan Bellows (Amy Ryan).

Although it’s initially unclear to the audience whether or not this is another hallucination or the real thing, Charles’ problems continue to get worse as Jan explains how Sazz was investigating someone who wanted to hurt Charles. He likely was the target from the beginning. This confirms his worst fears, that Sazz is dead because of him. Only Murders in the Building Season 4 is the toughest yet for poor Charles.

Meanwhile, Mabel and Oliver finally conclude their card game and ask about the locked apartment. While the group immediately gets defensive and demands their departure, it’s revealed the apartment belongs to a mysterious man named Professor Dudenoff. The name rings an immediate bell in their brains as they remember seeing a piece of paper from Sazz’s place in the previous episode labeled “Dudenoff – 044377.” They enter the apartment using the code provided by Sazz. However, it’s almost completely empty outside of a baby pig that sprints through the door.

Unfortunately for Charles, the constant banter with his subconscious creates a “Boy Who Cried Wolf” scenario for himself, as Mabel and Oliver refuse to believe Jan was actually present in his apartment in Only Murders in the Building Season 4, Episode 2. Thankfully, Detective Donna Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) arrives at Charles’ apartment to warn him about Jan’s escape, where he reveals to her the escapee has already made an appearance at his place.

With the detective’s help, they piece together a murder board with all the new suspects from the West Tower, centering around the mysterious Professor Dudenoff. However, as the team puts the pieces together, they come to a stunning realization. The code for Dudenoff’s apartment spells “0h h3LL” upside down, the exact name of the card game played by the West Tower tenants. Although their connection is unclear, everyone from the Christmas-crazed bodybuilder to Stink Eye Joe may be involved in the murder of Sazz Pataki.
