New York Comic Con has come and gone in the blink of an eye, with a ton of news and intriguing sound bytes emerging from the four-day extravaganza. While speaking at a panel for his upcoming Netflix series, Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley chatted with the assembled press about a number of franchise-centric topics. A particular point of interest is O’Malley’s confirmation that, while there is certainly nothing in development at this time, the idea of a solo project revolving around Lucas Lee (Chris Evans) has indeed been kicked around.
‘Scott Pilgrim’ Creator Speaks on the Possibility of a Lucas Lee Project
“We’ve definitely talked about it a lot,” O’Malley replied when asked about the possibility of expanding into the Lucas Lee universe. He added that nothing official was in the works and that he wasn’t sure if anything ever would be. “If the show’s a hit and if Chris wants to do it, I’d love to fuckin’ do anything with Lucas Lee,” O’Malley proclaimed, later adding “…we could write this character forever.”
It’s unknown whether O’Malley or Producer BenDavid Grabinski have spoken to Chris Evans directly about the possibility of a standalone project. It’s worth noting that Evans was among the group of original Scott Pilgrim vs. the World cast members who responded to the duo “within hours” indicating their desire to reprise their roles. Given Evans’ admiration for the Scott Pilgrim franchise and how much fun he had on the set of the 2010 film, it stands to reason that he’d be interested.
While Chris Evans wasn’t exactly an A-Lister when Scott Pilgrim vs. the World hit theaters back in 2010, he’s a household name now, primarily due to his portrayal of Captain America within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because of Evans’ immense popularity and the 2010 film’s cult classic status, the announcement of a Lucas Lee project would likely be extremely well received by fans. A positive response when Scott Pilgrim Takes Off hits Netflix on November 17 could be the catalyst for expanding upon the Lucas Lee character.
Would a Lucas Lee Project Be of Interest to ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Fans?
According to both O’Malley and Grabinski, the upcoming Netflix series focuses a great deal more on developing its supporting characters, Lucas Lee among them. With this in mind, there’s a decent chance that a month from now, fans will be so enamored with the possibility of seeing more from Lucas Lee that talk of his own series or film will begin to accelerate.
