Erica Durance is no stranger to comic books and television. After starring in Smallville as Lois Lane, Erica returned to the world of Kyrptonian’s in the CW’s Supergirl, as Alura Zor-El. Luckily for me, these roles led Erica Durance to my hometown, and the Saskatoon Expo, where Editor-In-Chief TJ Zwarych was able to speak with the Smallville star.
Smallville: The Animated Series
Back in February, Smallville star Tom Welling provided an update that excited fans of the series. The longest-running DC Comics television show could be rebooted, this time in an animated series. With plans for the show to pick up right after Smallville‘s 10th season, Welling added he hopes for Durance to return as the voice of Lois Lane. When speaking with Zwarych, Erica provided an update on her involvement with the potential series continuation:
“I know that it’s still in the process, the guys will let me know when I’m to step in, and in what capacity. So right now I think they’re still in production or pre-production, brainstorming ideas and what have you.”

Erica was thrilled about the chance to play the character again and is eagerly awaiting her call. As Welling and Durance headline the show as Clark & Lois, their enthusiasm bodes well for the series to be green-lit. However, as the new Warner Brothers Discovery merger goes through, everything remains up in the air at this point.
Smallville to Metropolis
The last time we saw Tom Welling and Erica Durance together on screen was the Crisis on Infinite Earths cross-over. Picking up right where they left off, the incredible chemistry of the two actors remains intact. Clark and Lois are parents now, living happily in the Kent’s hometown of Smallville. However, if Durance has her way, the story will get shaken up a bit:
“I would like to see them (Clark and Lois) go to Metropolis. I think that would be very fun to see where that story would take them.”
As much as she enjoyed the first 7 seasons of Smallville, Durance admitted her favorite time spent on the show was season 8 and beyond. With more to do and greater challenges for Lois, Durance was able to flex her acting chops and fully dive into the character. The role of Lois Lane is something Erica clearly takes very seriously. She spoke incredibly high of Bitsie Tulloch‘s portrayal of the character in Superman & Lois. Durance hopes to continue bringing excellent performances to the iconic role and is eager to see what the future holds.
Erica Durance’s top Smallville memories & what makes the series special
For more on my interview with Erica Durance, stay tuned to the Agents of Fandom podcast, and all of our socials. Our conversation also included tidbits on her chemistry with Tom Welling, how Lois is doing as a mom, and much more.
Thanks for this part of interview and thanks for what is coming. I can get behind the characters being in Metropolis for a bit as long as the shake up of them being there is just seeing what trouble they can get into and Villians they’d have to deal with and not adding relationship drama. We had enough of that on show lol.
I hope if this still is to happen that Erica will be very involved due to timeframe of animated series.
