The Acolyte Episode 4 opens on the planet Khofar with Kelnacca returning to his hut. We then shift to Coruscant with an unnamed Master training young Padawans while Osha (Amandla Stenberg) watches. Osha thanks Jecki (Dafne Keen) for helping her and tells her she’s leaving Coruscant. Osha says someone needs to find Mae (Stenberg), but it isn’t her, and she’ll stay in touch. Meanwhile, Mae and Qimir (Manny Jacinto) land on Khofar to search for Kelnacca.

On Coruscant, Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and the other Jedi, including Ki-Adi-Mundi (Derek Arnold), talk about Mae. Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) thinks a Jedi trained Mae and that they should keep this a secret from the High Council. Vernestra is also upset Sol didn’t tell her about Mae, but the Master reaffirms that there’s no way the child could have survived. He asks to be the one to bring her in but Vernestra is more afraid of Mae’s mysterious master than of Mae herself.

Back on Khofar, Qimir and Mae continue their search for Kelnacca. They talk about Mae’s master and how he wants her to kill Kelnacca without a weapon. Mae asks Qimir about her sister, and he says she seemed like she was over her head and fond of Sol. Back on Coruscant, Osha is on her way off the planet, but Sol catches her before she leaves. He convinces her to help because, at the end of the day, Mae is still her family.

The Acolyte Episode 4 continues when the team plans for their arrival on Khofar while Yord (Charlie Barnett) gives a briefing. Jecki asks a local about Kelnacca and Yord takes Osha’s blaster from her. The local says Kelnacca ventured into the forest long ago and never came back. They give a Tnnan tracker named Bazil a piece of his clothing and follow him into the woods. Yord says he’s concerned for Osha’s safety, and she asks if he thinks Mae can be saved, but he tells her Sol brought her here to save herself, not her sister.

Mae and Qimir arrive into the deep forest and continue their search for Kelnacca. The tracker leads the Jedi through the woods to a spot where they smell something rotten. Sol says to keep up the pace and keep down the volume and encourages everyone to keep moving. Osha then touches a bug on a tree that climbs to the top the second she turns around. It tries to attack her, but Sol kills it with his lightsaber.

Osha feels bad for disturbing the creature and causing its death, but Jecki reminds her it’s a privilege to see another being transform into the Force. Qimir and Mae are closing in on Kelnacca, but Mae has to stop and rest. Mae thinks killing Kelnacca without a weapon will be impossible but if she fails, her master will kill her. Meanwhile, the Jedi continue searching for Kelnacca but lose sight of their tracker.

The Jedi hear screaming while Qimir gets caught in a rope trap, and Mae has a change of heart, deciding she doesn’t need to kill Kelnacca because she’s loyal to Osha. Mae tells Qimir she’s going to turn herself into the Jedi and surrender to Kelnacca, but he warns her their Master will kill her; she thinks she’ll be fine if she can hide in a location as remote as Khofar. Mae arrives at Kelnacca’s hut and happens on Bazil, who alerts the Jedi to their location.

Mae walks inside to find Kelnacca already dead via a lightsaber cut on his chest. The Jedi order Mae to come out of the hut and Sol senses the master as he closes in on Osha, who is standing behind them. The Sith Lord ignites his red blade and flicks Osha to the side with the Force while also pushing all the Jedi back, where the episode fades to black.

With four episodes under its wing, The Acolyte is half over and can safely be considered high-level Star Wars TV. This level of murder mystery combined with dipping out of the standard timeline is a breath of fresh air. The Acolyte returns next week with another episode where more information about the ominous Sith Lord will (hopefully) finally be revealed.
