Captain Howzer Has Some Serious Trust Issues

The episode opens with Rex and his clone battalion escorting Senator Avi Singh (Alexander Siddig) to a meeting with an unknown potential partner. However, they are not safe, and a cryptic assailant watches over them with unease. The assailant sneaks in and picks off Rex’s clones one by one, and attempts to kill the Senator. Rex and his remaining team manage to hold off the attack and send the assassin running scared.

They catch up to him to find out he’s a clone, supposedly one of the shadow assassins they’ve had run-ins with in the past. They search him to find an encrypted data puck and head back to base to begin decrypting the information. Rex offers his help, but only if he gives them the answers they need. He refuses to provide any information about who sent him, or the location of Tantiss.

They successfully decrypt the data puck to reveal the assassin’s two targets: Senator Singh and Omega (Michelle Ang). Rex informs Hunter and asks them to come to the base so they can interrogate Crosshair and learn more information. When Clone Force 99 arrives on base, Howzer immediately threatens Crosshair and makes it clear even if the rest of his squad trusts him, he does not.

Before leaving on a mission of his own, Echo gives Omega a new energy crossbow. On the other side of the base, another assailant arrives to kill the captured clone and bring Omega back to the Empire. Back inside, Rex and Clone Force 99 discuss Tantiss base and Omega tells them about Nala Se’s M-count experiments.

Crosshair also informs them of Dr. Hemlock’s (Jimmi Simpson) special unit of clones who have had their identities erased and their minds conditioned for obedience and servitude. Crosshair admits the Empire tried to turn him but they failed because he is always “defective.” However, Rex and Howzer don’t realize the Empire can track the shadow clones, and the whole base is in danger. The new assassin identifies Omega and alerts the Empire to their location.

The captured clone refers to Crosshair as his brother and the levels of skepticism for Crosshair’s past rise even further. The infiltrator assassinates the captured clone but dies after a grenade drops a mountain of rock on top of him. At the end of the episode, the clones are on the run and the Empire shows up to capture Omega and bring her back to Mount Tantiss.
