The cast of X-Men the Animated Series hanging out with Spider-Man | Agents of Fandom

‘X-Men 97’ To Feature “Plenty of Cameos” Like The Original Says Head of Marvel TV [Exclusive]

‘X-Men ’97’ will be like it’s predecessor in this major way.

One of the beautiful things about the Marvel animated TV shows from the ’90s is how they share a universe. Having the X-Men interact with Spider-Man multiple times built a generation of fans yearning for an experience like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily, it sounds like X-Men ’97 will continue the trend from X-Men: The Animated Series.

It remains to be seen which characters could potentially appear in the series, however, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum confirmed in an interview with Agents of Fandom that the upcoming Disney+ series X-Men ’97 will indeed feature many cameos.

Although it may have been to dodge another question, Winderbaum revealed an exciting tidbit about X-Men ’97. He didn’t spoil which characters would be making an appearance, but he did promise there would be some exciting cameos.

“I will say that, you know, just like the original series had some really fun cameos that you didn’t expect to happen, you can expect the same thing in X-Men 97.”

With various characters from the ’90s animated shows and brand-new options from series like Marvel’s What If…? and the upcoming Spider-Man: Freshman Year, there’s no shortage of options. Unfortunately, X-Men ’97 not being canon to the MCU might cast some doubt on which versions of possible characters we might see.

There are certainly enough mutants in the Marvel universe to carry a show alone, but exploring how other heroes interact with the X-Men is an incredibly exciting prospect; it’s how the MCU became what it is today. The simple fact is that whether the cameos tie the show into the MCU or simply feature new (or old) characters for the X-men to interact with, it’s a breath of fresh air for Marvel Studios amidst a rocky period.
