The leading service for anime enthusiasts, Crunchyroll, is adding more content for its subscribers. The company is launching Crunchyroll Game Vault, a feature that gives users access to a range of mobile games that have been selected to specifically appeal to anime fans. This game collection is only available to Crunchyroll’s Mega ($9.99) and Ultimate Fan ($14.99) subscribers. The Game Vault will be launched in more than 200 countries and territories without any ads or in-app purchases.
Android users with the Mega or Ultimate Fan membership plans can already download the debut titles available at launch. Access for iOS users will be available at a later date. The lineup currently has five titles, so let’s dive into the interactive anime projects now available to play.
‘Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery’
From developer Silver Lining Studio, Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery is an indie game where players solve a variety of puzzles to help an aspiring artist complete her masterpiece while under the gaze of her impolite neighbor and his pesky cat.
The panoramic, hand-animated world in this game takes visual inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki and other Studio Ghibli projects. The evocative narrative will see players unlock the artist’s memories as they progress through the main story.
‘Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions’
From developer Momo-pi, Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions is a tactical action game centered on Damien, a young boy who recently moved to Japan. Due to his loneliness in a new city, Damien plunges into his imagination as a superhero named Captain Velvet Meteor and interacts with different heroes and villains from his favorite manga.
Players can partner up with characters from Jump+ series like Spy x Family, Summer Time Rendering, Hell’s Paradise, and more. Freely explore Damien’s imagination as he tries to conquer his fears through calculated battles, and experience a moving story about adapting to life and finding oneself.
‘inbento’
From developer Afterburn, inbento is a food-themed puzzle game where players can prepare lunch boxes while enjoying a heartwarming story about parenthood. With over 120 puzzles with unique pattern-matching solutions, gamers will have to master tricky mechanics, solve hand-crafted recipes, and explore tiny vignettes.
‘River City Girls’
From developer Wayforward, gamers can choose to play as hard-hitting heroines Misako and Kyoko as they search River City to rescue their boyfriends, Kunio and Riki. This beat-’em-up action game allows for solo or local 2-player co-op.
River City Girls features pixel-art graphics with HD anime and motion-comic cutscenes. Players will fight their way through six large city regions, complete with shops and side quests. They’ll also be able to rely on loads of weapons, items, and abilities to power up Misako and Kyoko.
‘Wolfstride’
From developer OTA IMON Studios, Wolfstride is about a trio of characters stumbling their way toward a giant mecha tournament. Repair and upgrade the team’s mech, do odd jobs for cash, and meet a plethora of enchanting characters in this role-playing game. Players can enter the arena to fight it out one-on-one with giant robots in a turn-based battle system.
The Crunchyroll Game Vault Will Continue to Grow
With over 24,000 hours of movies and shows, Crunchyroll’s devotion to providing new content continues to shine through with the introduction of the Crunchyroll Game Vault. The company has already promised that they will provide continuous additions to this line-up of games, with a whole new wave of titles coming soon.
