The third installment of the Deadpool films, Deadpool & Wolverine, marks the first Marvel Studios movie to have characters from the X-Men franchise as the leads. The characters were originally owned by 20th Century Fox, but have been acquired by Disney since 2019. With much hype surrounding this film, the Deadpool & Wolverine post-credit scene has been speculated to tease the X-Men’s official arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The Marvel formula for post-credits scenes can be categorized as a tease for an upcoming project, or a silly gag to reward those who sat through the entire film. With only one post-credit scene, continue reading below to see what type the Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene falls under.
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Does ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Have a Mid-Credits Scene?
Deadpool & Wolverine does something completely new for Marvel Studios films and features behind-the-scenes footage while the credits are rolling. The audience is treated to a wonderful montage of various Marvel movies from the 20th Century Fox/Marvel era.
The video includes an interview with Ryan Reynolds for X-Men Origins: Wolverine while highlighting Hugh Jackman throughout various X-Men films. It also showcases movies such as Fantastic Four, Elektra, and more. It is an amazing and thoughtful way to celebrate those projects as Marvel Studios closes the book on that chapter while ushering in a new one.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Has a Fiery Post-Credits Scene
During the film, Deadpool (Reynolds) and Wolverine (Jackman) encounter a character played by Chris Evans. Deadpool, being a big fan of Captain America, is happy to see him. But Evans’ character says “Flame on”, revealing himself to be Johnny Storm from Fantastic Four. When the trio are captured by the movie’s antagonist, Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), Deadpool claims that Johnny made many negative comments about her, despite it not being shown in the film. But Deadpool is convincing enough, leading Cassandra to kill Johnny in anger.
In the Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene, Deadpool tells the audience that he wants to set the record straight about what Johnny said. He plays surveillance footage from the Time Variance Authority (TVA) that proves Johnny said all those bad things about Cassandra. It’s especially funny knowing that Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America would never dream of uttering such a spicy collection of words, whereas Johnny Storm didn’t have to think twice.
The Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene didn’t have any domino effect on future MCU projects, but it is a funny moment that many people might enjoy if they stick around until the very end. More of Evans as Johnny Storm is a nice treat.
