Margot Robbie is a powerhouse performer, but which of her films is best?

Margot Robbie is arguably one of the best actors of the 21st century. With her critically acclaimed performances in I, Tonya, and The Wolf of Wall Street to her multiple Oscar nominations, Robbie is a talented actor who portrays her characters with confidence and care each time she appears on the big screen. Given that she has over 37 IMDb acting credits to her name, Robbie’s career as an actor is marked by escalating levels of success in the entertainment industry.

From her roles as the iconic Harley Quinn in the DC Universe to the plastic and fantastic Barbie, she has played a wide range of characters that are powerful enough to make you want more. That said, here are five Margot Robbie movies that truly showcase her impressive and captivating talent.

5. ‘Once Upon a Time In Hollywood’ (2019)

Portraying a real person in a fictional reality is a tough test, but Margot Robbie effortlessly brings the light to a tale that historically has a dark ending. Starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood tells the story of Rick Dalton, an actor struggling with his career and the paradigm shift in the Hollywood industry during the late 1960s.

Robbie portrays actor and model Sharon Tate, leading up to the days of her tragic murder. However, like most films from legendary director Quentin Tarantino, there’s an amusing and unique twist. Robbie’s screen time is limited, yet that doesn’t stop her performance from breaking through and being nominated for a BAFTA in 2020.

Once Upon a Time In Hollywood is available to stream on Hulu in the U.S.

4. ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ (2013)

Margot Robbie’s breakout role as Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf of Wall Street is what launched her iconic Hollywood career. At just 22 years old, Robbie’s audition sparked interest in Martin Scorsese as he would cast her to play the stunning second wife to Leonardo DiCaprio’s narcissist Wall Street millionaire, Jordan Belfort.

The film received tons of acclaim from critics, many of whom praised Robbie’s performance as the film’s standout. Multiple of her famous lines from the film are celebrated, to this day, all across social media. The Wolf of Wall Street is without question a staple to Robbie’s filmography that you don’t want to miss out on.

A list of the best Margot Robbie movies wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the comic book character she brought to life first in a live-action film. From director James Gunn, The Suicide Squad marks Robbie’s third adventure as the bubbly criminal mastermind, Harley Quinn — her first appearance being in David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad in 2016, then in Cathy Yan‘s 2020 flick, Birds of Prey.

The film (once again) puts Robbie’s Harley Quinn in an ensemble featuring Idris Elba‘s Bloodsport, Daniela Melchior‘s Ratcatcher 2, and John Cena‘s Peacemaker on a secret mission to invade the island of Corto Maltese. The Suicide Squad received massive acclaim for its unhinged humor, high-scaled action sequences, and amazing cast. Robbie’s performance as her beloved DC character will always delight and earn praise for her pure love and humor.

The Suicide Squad is available to stream on Max in the U.S.

2. ‘Barbie’ (2023)

Margot Robbie’s first billion-dollar film as both actor and producer comes from Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie. As Stereotypical Barbie, Robbie delivers a vulnerable, relatable, and wholesome performance with her character learning that there’s much more to do in life than being perfect in Barbieland. Barbie wonderfully displays the exploration of womanhood and femininity while also dealing with the toxic complexities of the patriarchy.

Robbie provides a new life as Barbie, making her lovable and reminding audiences how the doll remains a classic icon for many around the world. Alongside Robbie, strong performances from Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera are also reasons to watch this remarkable, touching film.

Barbie is available to stream on Max in the U.S.

1. ‘I, Tonya’ (2017)

Breaking the fourth wall, beautiful figure skating, and intense drama are what bring us to Margot Robbie’s best movie to date. Craig Gillespie‘s I, Tonya deals with former professional figure skater Tonya Harding. From Harding’s childhood with her ruthless mother LaVona (Allison Janney), her rocky relationship with Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), and finally, her unfortunate connection to Nancy Kerrigan‘s assault in 1994.

Robbie’s performance as Harding is hilarious, serious, and complicated, showcasing all of the actor’s strengths by playing characters with immense challenges. Robbie also plays Harding with fierceness and sympathy, as the complications in her life lead to her destroying her formidable legacy as a talented figure skater and becoming a villain in the public eye.

I, Tonya earned Robbie her first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actress. The film also received many other accolades, including Allison Janney, who won an Oscar in 2018 for Best Supporting Actress. Regardless of the awards, Margot Robbie in I, Tonya brought her to a whole new level of fame as she gives a phenomenal performance that remains her greatest to date.

I, Tonya is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
