Guardians 3 Box Office Numbers Revive MCU Faith

How well did the ‘Guardians’ finale do in its opening weekend?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opening weekend has come and gone, with fans and critics raving about the MCU’s latest hit. Despite mixed fan reception of the MCU since Quantumania, the Guardians 3 box office numbers prove the franchise hasn’t lost a step. The final installment for our beloved Guardians has much to offer for hardcore fans and newcomers alike, including tons of delightful cameos and easter eggs to appreciate.

How do the Guardians 3 box office numbers look?

It comes as no surprise that people are so willing to show up to the theater to support the Guardians on their final journey together, but box office success is no stranger for this franchise. Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge question mark for Marvel Studios at the time, but the original film still managed to gross $94.2 million domestically on opening weekend.

On the back of the first film’s success and peaking MCU interest early in Phase 3, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 managed to bring in a whopping $146.2 million domestically, a $52 million dollar increase.

The Guardians 3 box office has been a success from the first showing, with the film earning $17.5 million domestically from Thursday night previews alone, compared to Guardians $11.2 million and Volume 2‘s $17 million. The success doesn’t stop there, as the film jumped all the way up to a $48.2 million dollar Friday night opening—proving that even in a post-pandemic world, the Guardians franchise is a commercial success.

Now that it’s all said and done, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has brought in a stunning $115 million domestically, and $282 million globally. This is only a small increase in contrast to Quantumania‘s $104 million dollar opening, but expect Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to have much longer legs given the awesome word-of-mouth marketing, and not experience an abysmal 70% between its first and second weekends like its predecessor.

It’s common practice by now for fans and hate-viewers alike to watch the box office numbers like a hawk and attempt to deem the movie a success or a flop. Given that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has already out-grossed the $250 million dollar budget within three days of release, it’s safe to say the movie is a smash hit.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is nothing short of a monumental emotional achievement, and the film deserves every dollar of success. People aren’t keen to say goodbye to the MCU’s most flawed and lovable characters, so earnings will likely stretch over the coming weeks as people return for multiple viewings.
