Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad Isekai | Agents of Fandom

Electrifying ‘Suicide Squad Isekai’ Series Announced

Task Force X are making the jump into a whole new medium with an original story.

The Suicide Squad is set to star in a brand-new adventure titled Suicide Squad Isekai. The team made their big screen debut in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad back in 2016 to mixed reception amongst critics and general audiences. The team was rebooted in 2021’s The Suicide Squad by James Gunn, receiving much greater acclaim.

Popularity for this version of the anti-heroes generated fanfare, especially Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn. The love for Harley Quinn led to the iconic character getting her own adult-animated series, simply titled Harley Quinn, which only increased fan demand. Now, the Clown Princess of Crime is set to lead another animated series (and we’re not complaining).

What is ‘Suicide Squad Isekai?’

At this year’s Anime Expo, Warner Bros. Japan and WIT Studio officially announced that The Suicide Squad is getting an isekai anime series. WIT Studio is best known for its work on the first three seasons of Attack on Titan and the beloved Spy x Family. The studios will collaborate to deliver this original story.

For those unfamiliar, ‘isekai’ is a subgenre of fantasy where a character is suddenly transported into a new/unfamiliar world. A very popular Western iteration of this is Alice in Wonderland or The Wizard of Oz. As seen in the teaser for Suicide Squad Isekai, Harley Quinn somehow lands in a world inhabited by dragons and humanoid pigs.

Who is in the Suicide Squad anime?

Besides Harley Quinn being the main focus of the footage, a brief glimpse of Joker and Amanda Waller is seen as well. An official poster release seems to indicate that Peacemaker and Deadshot could be members of Task Force X, as Harley is wearing buttons with their logos on them. Other than that, it’s unclear if this team will feature other characters from the live-action films.

The series will be directed by Eri Osada, with screenplays by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara. Akira Amano will handle the visuals and draft character designs, while Naoto Hosoda will be in charge of the main character designs. Music composition is done by Kenichiro Suehiro.

When is the Suicide Squad Isekai release date?

As of right now, no release date has been set for the upcoming series. But considering that enough animation is already completed to make this teaser, it can come as early as next year. A timeframe hasn’t been made official yet though, so it could be even longer than that.
